Afternoon Tea at The Midland Hotel
Afternoon tea at the Midland Hotel is an opulent affair. This 4-star hotel has been one of Manchester’s most iconic landmark’s for over 100 years and offers one of the city’s finest dining experiences – not to be missed.
Midland Hotel Afternoon Tea Menu
We were fortunate to have afternoon tea at the Midland Hotel recently and enjoyed excellent service in their relaxing and plush tea room overlooking St Peter’s Square. Afternoon tea was served on a decadent cake stand – floor to table height. Savoury treats included delicate and light finger sandwiches and brioche buns filled with seasonal treats. This was followed by plain and fruit scones served with clotted cream and your choice of a selection of jams which were brought to the table in bowls and your choice was placed on your plate. The cake and pastry selection was outstanding – too much to choose from and in order to ensure we tried everything, we could only manage half portions of cakes so nothing was left untasted. Below is the menu we enjoyed but this changes throughout the year to reflect each season’s natural larder.
A SELECTION OF SANDWICHES
Poached Salmon and Dill Crème Fraiche on Dark Rye Bread
Coronation Chicken on Brown Bread
Roast Yorkshire Beef with Horseradish and Watercress on Brown Bread
Cucumber with Hendricks Gin and Apple Compote on White Bread
Burford Brown Egg and Mustard Cress on Brioche Bun
FRESHLY BAKED SCONES
Sultana & plain scones served with Devon clotted cream & Mrs Darlington’s jams.
AN ASSORTMENT OF HOME BAKED CAKES
Lemon drizzle cake with Candied Lemon Glaze
Dark Chocolate and Orange Sachertorte
Duck Egg Custard Tart with Yorkshire Rhubarb
Apple and Caramel ‘Crumble’
A RANGE OF PREMIUM LOOSE LEAF TEA

Prices from £35+
There was no limit to the amount of tea you could drink or flavours you could try. One of the party was a coffee drinker and they were served freshly brewed coffee, topped up as often as required.
DOGGY BAGS
Our tummies were absolutely full and we had no room to squeeze in the final two scones or the last slice of dark chocolate and orange sachertorte. This wasn’t a problem and our waitress was only too happy to supply us with a beautiful doggy bag to take home.
Book Afternoon Tea at the Midland Hotel
We would give this afternoon tea full marks for location, beautiful venue, friendly and efficient service and divine menu. Definitely worth adding to your Little Black Book for a day out with friends and family.
